The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists – Philippine Chapter (AACE-PC) successfully held its Christmas outreach last Nov.19 in Barangay Bayabas Toril, Davao. The event benefited more than 50 families from the said Barangay.
As part of the Goiter, Obesity, Osteoporosis, Diabetes (GOOD) program, the families were treated to a basic lecture on nutrition entitled : “Wastong Nutrisyon Na Pampamilya” by Dr Yasmin Zuniga. She discussed the importance of a proper nutrition like consuming moderate amounts of sugary, salty, and fatty food and in particular to identify hidden sources of sugar and salt. They were also taught on how to look for good fat sources, to read the nutrition facts in food labels, and to watch their food portions. She also entertained the interesting questions from the audience. This was followed by a Yuletide surprise of delightful snacks and a Christmas basket of grocery, which were given to each family.
